1970s Korean Vintage Wallpaper — Gyeongmi (original)
Gyeongmi belongs to a lineage that begins with 17th-century Lyon silk damask. Its acanthus-and-vine scroll pattern, interrupted by boteh (paisley-origin) medallions, traveled from French looms to Japanese printing facilities and into the Korean interior market.
The original wallpaper’s distinctive quality was its gold-embossed finish — metallic pigment pressed into the paper surface by heated roller, a technique that entered Korea’s wallpaper industry in the early 1970s. The result was a surface that caught light the way woven brocade does.
GOSATE’s reproduction digitally restores the warm brown ground and the lustrous gold finish of the 1970s original, printed on premium non-woven base paper manufactured in Sweden.
